Five Finger Mountains, stretching for 160 km along the northern coast of Cyprus, seemingly racing with the sea, gets its name from Besparmak Tepesi (Five Finger Peak) located east of Girne.
The most popular legend tells of two young men who fell in love with the same girl and dueled to determine who would have her. In the end, the good-hearted young man defeats the other and throws him into the swamp. However, he also falls into the swamp due to his injuries, and only his hand, reaching out to his beloved girl, remains outside. Over time, this hand grows and petrifies, forming Besparmak.
